Education

Education and Learning is critical to the long term success of the Reflections programme, and is therefore integral to all of our projects. Many of our projects already engage young people in a range of activities, including; conservation, learning about our cultural heritage, and participating in journeys here and abroad.

But we also have a dedicated Education Officer, whose has focused is on three key areas of development:

Family Learning - Our family learning sessions have raised awareness amongst young people and families of the environmental, cultural and heritage issues surrounding the Bassenthwaite Lake;

Study Support - Our study support programme has provided specialist tutors to work with schools on fun, practical sessions to supplement their school work. These sessions cover many areas including Vikings, art, music, dance and local wildlife;

Bassenthwaite Reflections Resource Pack has been developed that will link our projects to the national curriculum in a number of subject areas, including science, geography and history.

In 2010 these topics are being consolidated into a Bassenthwaite Learning Kit, which is being pilot in six schools across north Cumbria
